ABOUT NANCY

Nancy started riding at the age of 9 but wasn't allowed to take regular lessons until she completed her grade 9 piano, which she did in grade 10. She would ride her bike to the local stable, Woodacres Farm in London, and clean tack in exchange for riding. She also attended Glen Bernard Camp in Sundridge Ontario as a camper and as a staff member became head of the riding program for three years.

During the 1980's Nancy worked at Anderson Farms, a Thoroughbred breeding farm in St. Thomas, Ontario. The racing industry was booming and there were over two hundred mares, foals, yearlings and horses in training on the property. Prepping and showing yearlings at the Saratoga sale was a highlight with one of the fillies being sold for over one million dollars.

Nancy completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree at the University of Guelph, majoring in Animal Science and took the position as assistant editor at Canadian Horseman Magazine upon graduation. After publishing several issues, however, the magazine was sold and Nancy moved to the Toronto area, teaching at Crossfield Farms in Markham.

Over the next few years, what had started as a part-time job became a profession as Nancy achieved her Level 1 and later her Level 2 national coaching certification. She has taught hundreds of students at many of the major riding facilities and has had much show ring success with her students on the provincial Trillium circuit. Nancy has also successfully competed in the hunter and jumper ring.

Currently Nancy is an examiner for Equine Canada's new rider levels and is actively involved in the mentoring program for future coaches. Recently she has also added judging to her list of equine activities.

As well as continuing to ride, Nancy's hobbies include scrapbooking and gardening and spending time with her family, husband Rob, children Adam, 8, and Carling, 7, dog Driller and numerous other pets.
